Eat Your Art Out: Live Painting

"Untitled" / 28 x 48" / acrylic on canvas

This beast-tastic explosion was my live art contribution to Eat Your Art Out 6, this past Saturday. I rocked it in a solid, 3-hour session of paint-slinging, people-chatting, and beer-spilling action.

Kudos to my fellow live artists: Jim Mahfood, Andy Howell & Matthew Powell. And many thanks to Jane Dope & friends, The Angel City Derby Girls, and everyone else who helped make this year's event such a blast!

King Gum Comic!

I'm ecstatic to say that, after years of toiling on work-for-hire jobs, I've found myself in a position to focus more on creator-owned projects. The first one I've completed is an 8-page comic titled, "In The Clutches of The Derby Queen!" This short story features my alter ego, King Gum, in the days before he won his crown. On this adventure, he's been taken prisoner by a race of deadly Derby Girls. The only way for Young Gum to win his freedom is by defeating their brutally beautiful Queen in all-out combat!

This comic will appear in the next volume of Titmouse Inc's MOOK comics anthology (release date TBD), so I can't show too much online. But finishing this piece has rekindled my love for making comics. I've already begun work on a handful of other sequential stories, so there'll be lots to look forward to in 2013. This is just the tip of the iceberg!

to commit the crimes of passion that sets us free."

EAT YOUR ART OUT 6: Creature Feature At The Drive-In

"Eat Your Art Out 6"

12x18" / watercolor, acrylic & ink on paper

Poster design by Jane Dope

The talented Jane Dope gave me the honor of illustrating the poster for Eat Your Art Out 6. This year's theme of "creature feature at the drive-in" took me right back to my childhood, the root of my evil scribbles & paint spatters.

I had a blast creating the artwork. Especially since it allowed me to flex some wet media muscles I hadn't used in awhile. But I was truly blown away, when I saw what Jane herself had done with the final design. Somewhere between my shambled notes on how I thought text placement could work & her own intuition, Ms. Dope came up with poster that screams, "CREATURE FEATURE AT THE DRIVE-IN!" Right down to the fogged-up car windshield!

For more info on the show, visit EYAO on Facebook. This year's exhibit is a fundraiser for The Angel City Derby Girls, as well as the Keep A Breast Foundation. It all takes place at the amazing Titmouse, Inc performance space in Hollywood, on February 23rd. Mark your calendars, people. You do not want to miss this event!

"Let's all go to the lobby, to get ourselves a treat!"
