That's right, kids! My lovely ladyfriend, Kelly (aka Deadbeatsister) got caught on SF Weekly's blog, not only killing it with her own outfit, but also punk-ass designers with her badass, original silkscreened apparel! Check out the write up at: My Girlfriend Kicks Ass
Holy bucket-o-chicken! Has anyone besides me seen Flava Flav's new sitcom, "Under One Roof"? Imagine "Fresh Prince of Bel Air," minus The Fresh Prince. Now, replace said Prince with an ex-convict, played by Flav. Then add more ill-bent racial humor than Archie Bunker's Greatest Hits and Mark Fuhrman's poetry journal combined.
And that, my friends, is just the tip of the iceberg. You really do have to see it to believe it. It's almost as if the Tracy Jordan character (by Tracy Morgan) on 30 Rock magically jumped out of the television, possessed the body of Flava Flav, then jumped back into the television to claim his own sitcom. Does that make any sense? Am I on crazy pills?!
I was pretty sure Flava Flav couldn't possibly do more to damage the image of black men in America. Boy, was I wrong. And damn, am I hooked.
***Spoiler Alert*** Our wonderful heroes of Everybody's DEAD lose some people, for sure. But they also GAIN some new friends! One of them is the lovely Juliet, a Japanese goth princess. I was doodling different design approaches for her, last night. Some of this stuff is scribbled on the back of my copy of the script. I've become such a heathen in my sketching practices. *sigh*
Yo peeps! At long last, here are some photos from that fateful night of Food One's birthday --- THE PLEDGE PARTY! Beers were consumed, cannabis lollipops were sucked, and walls were bombed! The fine folks from Comics On Comics even shot footage of Mahfood and I painting our tag-team mural. To view the saucy video, head to http://www. comicsoncomics. com/?p=30
What art blog is complete, without the artist's sketches?!? This book actually isn't sooo new. I got it mere minutes after landing at LAX for last month's Pledge Party. Yes, I know I still need to post those photos of the mural Mahfood and I blasted across the walls of Meltdown. For now, enjoy this video of us working on it - http://www. comicsoncomics. com/?p=30
Anyhoo, this sketchbook is about halfway filled. I'm having a blast with it... letting King Gum run loose in its pages. I'm also doodling out lots of little character designs and robot designs for some of my creator-owned comic concepts. Right now, I'm trying to decide on one idea to run with. There are plenty to pick from, in my cluttered brain, but only one will move on to be America's Next Top Graphic Novel!
Er, but yeah... drawing out different characters and creatures from my list of concepts helps me see what I've got the most passion for... which characters are writing/drawing themselves, and what ideas need more polishing to achieve what I'm going for.
Enough preamble! Here go some drawings!
I'll post more of these tidbits soon. For now, I gotsta draw!
That's right, I'm back. Sorry for the loooong silence on the blog, since the end of March. I'd blame it on being busy (and busy I am), but that's just turds. No excuses. No complaining about lack of time. I'm back. Simple as that. One of the many things on my plate is a commission I picked up from my boy, Danny. He hired me to personalize his badass Chrome messenger bag. I put the sketch up here a few weeks ago. Today, I've got photos of the rough drawing actually on the bag. Woot!
And you KNOW I'll be putting photos of the completed bag design on here. Word to your mother.
